Ferrosilicon is a new type of alloy with a silver-gray color and is available in blocks, spheres, granules, and powder.
Ferrosilicon is an alloy composed of iron and silicon. Ferrosilicon is smelted in an electric furnace using coke, scrap steel, and quartz (or silicon dioxide) as raw materials to form an iron-silicon alloy. The manufacturer offers four grades of ferrosilicon: 75#, 72#, 70#, and 65#. Ferrosilicon is offered at competitive prices and is available in various sizes, including natural blocks, standard blocks, granules, and powder. These grades can be customized to meet customer requirements.
About 72 Ferrosilicon
72 Ferrosilicon is primarily an alloy composed of iron and silicon. Because silicon and oxygen readily combine to form silicon dioxide, ferrosilicon is often used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking. The oxidation reaction itself is exothermic, raising the temperature of molten steel. Ferrosilicon can also be used as an alloying element additive and is widely used in low-alloy structural steels, spring steels, bearing steels, and electrical silicon steels. Ferrosilicon is also commonly used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production and the chemical industry. Specifications and Particle Size: Natural lump, 10-100mm, powder, or customizable.
Packaging: One metric ton in a large bag, or customizable.
Applications of Ferrosilicon 72
1. Used as an inoculant and spheroidizer in the cast iron industry. Cast iron is a vital metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel, easier to melt and smelt, and offers excellent casting properties and better impact resistance than steel. Ductile iron, in particular, has mechanical properties comparable to or close to those of steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to cast iron prevents the formation of carbides and promotes graphite precipitation and spheroidization. Therefore, in ductile iron production, ferrosilicon serves as an important inoculant (facilitating graphite precipitation) and crystallizer.
2. Used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in the steelmaking industry. Deoxidation is essential during the steelmaking stage to achieve the desired chemical composition and ensure quality. Silicon and oxygen have a strong chemical affinity, making ferrosilicon a powerful deoxidizer for both precipitation and diffusion deoxidation in steelmaking. Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve its strength, hardness, and elasticity. Therefore, ferrosilicon is also used as an alloying agent in the smelting of structural steel (0.4%-1.75% Si), tool steel (0.3%-1.8% Si), spring steel (0.4%-2.8% Si), and transformer silicon steel (2.81%-4.8% Si).
3. Other Uses. Ground or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as a suspension phase in the mineral processing industry. It can also be used as a coating for welding rods in the welding rod manufacturing industry. High-silicon ferrosilicon is used in the chemical industry to manufacture products such as silica gel.
4. Among these applications, steelmaking, foundry, and ferroalloy industries are the main users of ferrosilicon. Together, they consume approximately 90% of ferrosilicon. Among various ferrosilicon grades, 75% ferrosilicon is currently the most widely used. In the steelmaking industry, 3-5 kilograms of 75% ferrosilicon are consumed for every ton of steel produced.
